Signed with monogram (lower center). An engraving by H. Guttenberg showing this composition in reverse and citing the Poullain provenance is in The Witt Library, London.

PROVENANCE:

This painting may be identifiable with a work formally in the collection of Monsieur Poullain, Paris, which was sold in Paris on March 17, 1780, no. 25, as the first of a pair.
